Summary

Lacrosse is a fast-paced team sport that involves using a small rubber ball and a long-handled stick called a crosse or lacrosse stick. The objective of lacrosse is to shoot the ball into the opposing team's goal, while preventing the opposing team from scoring in your own goal. Lacrosse combines elements of basketball, soccer, and hockey, and is considered America's oldest sport.

Lacrosse requires agility, speed, and endurance, making it a highly competitive and physically demanding sport.

Key Types of Lacrosse

Field Lacrosse

  • Outdoor Team Sport: Played with ten players (three attackmen, three midfielders, three defensemen, and one goalie) on each team. The field is 110 yards long and 60 yards wide.

Box Lacrosse

  • Indoor Team Sport: Played with six players (two forwards, two defensemen, and one goalie) on each team. The game is played inside a hockey rink with the ice removed and replaced by artificial turf.

Women's Lacrosse

  • Less Contact: Women's Lacrosse differs significantly from men's lacrosse with less contact allowed, different equipment used, and different field setup.

Intercrosse

  • Non-Contact Sport: A mixed-gender non-contact form of lacrosse using a plastic stick and softer ball.
Competitions
  • Majors: Professional lacrosse leagues in North America include Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the National Lacrosse League (NLL), and the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL).
  • International Competitions: The World Lacrosse Championship, Under-19 World Lacrosse Championships, and the World Indoor Lacrosse Championship are organized by the World Lacrosse.
  • College Lacrosse: In the United States, college lacrosse is very popular, with competitions organized by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).
