Summary

Volleyball is a team sport where two teams of six players are separated by a net. Each team tries to score points by grounding the ball on the other team's court under organized rules. It has been a part of the official program of the Summer Olympic Games since 1964.

Volleyball demands speed, agility, strength, and strategic teamwork. The game is highly competitive and physically demanding, with matches often going on for hours.

Key Types of Volleyball

Indoor Volleyball

  • Standard Game: Played on an indoor court, this is the most common form of volleyball. Teams aim to hit the ball onto the opponent's side of the court.

Beach Volleyball

  • Sand Court: Played on a sand court smaller than an indoor volleyball court with teams of two players. The game has slightly different rules, such as no rotation and players are allowed to overhand pass a serve.

Grass Volleyball

  • Outdoor Game: This variation is similar to indoor volleyball but is played on grass. The game is often played in parks and backyards and can involve larger teams.

Sitting Volleyball

  • Paralympic Sport: A version of volleyball for disabled athletes. Players must have part of their body in contact with the floor when they hit the ball.

Footvolley

  • Beach Game: A sport from Brazil that combines aspects of beach volleyball and football. Players are not allowed to use their hands and arms.
Competitions
